Economic & Community Impact

Salina continues to transform itself into one of Kansas’s most desirable cities to live in. Public and private investments in our community’s infrastructure have driven our economic engine and created a better quality of life for all. In 2022, Saline County experienced the State’s highest GDP growth rate, while the Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation industry brought in $13,800,000 compared to the previous record of $9,900,000 in 2014. For the first time in a decade, Salina has grown in population.

In 2019, a group of citizens formed the Salina Kanvas Project. Their goal was to attract the best mural and street artists to help transform the Salina community into one of the world’s greatest outdoor public art museums. It started with Guido van Helten’s mural on the HD Lee Mill in 2021. In 2022 the group launched the first annual Boom! Salina Mural & Street Art Festival, which brought in world renown artists Mantra (France), Tony Sjoman (Sweden), Telmo Miel (The Netherlands), Mona Caron (Switzerland), Mauro Neri (Brazil), Joe Iurato (New Jersey), Logan Hicks (New York), and Martha Cooper (New York).
These artists have helped establish Salina as a destination, attracting visitors far and wide.

The Salina Kanvas Project continues to focus on its mission to put Salina on the national map of must-see places. Between October 5th and 7th, the second annual Boom! Salina Festival will be held in Salina’s Downtown. We will be hosting a combination of international, national, and Kansas-based muralists that will continue to transform our cityscape. To make this possible, the Salina Kanvas Project needs your support. 100% of our budget is funded by private individual and corporate donors that want to see Salina be the best place to visit, live, and work. Though we love the “art project”, we view this effort as an “economic project”. Your contribution can help change the reputation of Salina for the next generation to come. Thank you for your consideration.
